Luke 7:36-50 "Forgiveness"
A prayer, in the form of a collect, from a bible reading in today's lectionary
A collect based on Luke 7:36-50 (Click on this link to read the passage)
Christ, who forgave others generously,
The Gospels reveal that you had no need of forgiveness yourself.
You never knew the shame in revealing, the courage in asking, the anguish in waiting, the joy in receiving, (and the pain in not receiving), forgiveness. Help me to understand this lack.
Because if you had needed forgiveness I would think no less of you. I would not love you any less. Indeed, I would seek to echo your heart and say “I forgive you”.
Amen
I hope you have found the prayer useful in engaging with this bible passage from Luke about a “sinful woman forgiven”. It is a rather unconventional approach to the topic and yet I do sometimes struggle with the idea of Jesus not being able to share in such an important human experience as the need for forgiveness.
Do share with one or two other people who might be interested in these daily prayers. With peace and best wishes, Steve
