Luke 18: 15-30 "Rich Young Ruler"
A prayer, in the form of a collect, based on a bible reading for today
A collect based on Luke 18:15-30
Christ, who spoke to the rich young ruler burdened by his identification with achievements and possessions.
Your words led to his mournful realisation that salvation is not earnt but an impossible act of unmerited grace; a gift freely given.
Help us to leave behind what binds and, like children, come with nothing to offer except a willingness to receive.
For our best efforts are as nothing when faced with a love that is eternal.
Amen.
The image used today is “For he had great possessions” by George Frederic Watts. Find out more about the painting HERE. I highly recommend the VCS website which connects works of art with biblical themes and passages. I had been trying to remember the name of the site for a few weeks now so I’m delighted to have stumbled across it with the painting today.
Thank you for reading the prayer today. I hope it is useful for you. With peace and best wishes, Steve
Thanks for the link to the VCS website, which I haven’t come across before - very interesting!
