Luke 14: 12-24 "All are welcome"
A prayer, in the form of a collect, based on a bible reading for today.
A collect based on Luke 14: 12-24
Christ you sought out the dispossessed, inviting them to your feast.
An act of radical hospitality rooted in your eternal compassion.
Help us to welcome the ‘other’, to break bread together, without distraction or excuse.
For in the intimacy of a shared experience we discover our humanity.
Amen.
The artwork accompanying the prayer today is “Parable of the Great Banquet”, circa 1525 by Brunswick Monogrammist and is currently in the National Museum, Warsaw. This artist was a forerunner of Bruegel (yesterday’s feast scene). (I’ve only learnt all this today so please correct me if I’m wrong!)
I hope you find the prayer useful today. It can be worth revisiting it during the day to see how it resonates in different ways at different points.
As always, if you do feel able to share these prayers with someone you know that is much appreciated. With peace and best wishes, Steve.
