Luke 12: 22-31 "Consider the lilies"
A prayer, in the form of a collect, based on a bible reading for today
A collect based on Luke 12: 22-31
Christ, who provides all we need to grow in love.
Our soul is a beautiful flower in God’s garden; planted with care to grow uniquely within a rich, varied landscape.
Help us to stay rooted, alive, present; discovering the shape of you on each leaf and petal.
Knowing that this is enough; to be gazed upon, to be cared for, to be.
Amen
The image that accompanies the prayer today is by Stanley Spencer. It is called “Consider the lilies” and is part of the “Christ in the wilderness” collection.
The image of the soul as being a flower in God’s garden is not mine I’m afraid! It is St. Therese of Lisieux who describes her soul as being like a flower in God’s garden. I read about St. Therese in Stephen Cottrell’s reflections on Stanley Spencer’s paintings. The link above is to this book which I encourage you to read if you haven’t done so.
