Lent 2025 Day 39 "It is finished"

John 19: 16b-37 “It is finished”

Jesus Christ, Son of God, who died.

On this Good Friday there was an ending. There was no joy of resurrection. There was a painful physical and emotional separation from life and from those you loved.

But in this ending there was fulfillment; “It is finished”. In this ending there was care and compassion; “Here is your mother, here is your son”. In this ending there was need; “I am thirsty”. This ending invites us to ask “What is this death?”

In your living and in your dying all things find their fulfillment. As we wait at the foot of your cross on this Good Friday may we sit with the pain and the hope, and seek to discern deep within us, “What is this death?”
