Luke 23: 1-25 “Crucify, crucify him”
Christ, who subverts our systems of power and proclaims a new source of authority.
You found yourself a victim of weak and corrupt regimes with no values other than the maintenance of power. Your gospel of humility and compassion held no sway with those who led through expediency, violence, and domination.
When, on this Maundy Thursday, we find ourselves aligning with those who ridicule and exploit the weak and vulnerable, and find ourselves shouting with the crowd, “Crucify him”, “Send them back”, “Lock them up”, “Benefit cheats”,
Have mercy on us and raise up in us your welcoming and hospitable Spirit. The Spirit which calls us to surrender to your will and to serve the least of our sisters and brothers.
Amen.
