Lent 2025 Day 37 "The Lord turned and looked at Peter"
Luke 22: 54-71 “The Lord turned and looked upon Peter”
Christ, who turns and looks upon us.
Peter discovered that the courage he had when alongside you, defending you in the garden, deserted him when alone, vulnerable to accusation and threat.
In much the same way, at this midpoint of Holy Week we often find ourselves following you at a distance, lacking in courage, fearful, insecure, rationalising our contradictory choices.
Yet, despite our failings, when you turn and gaze upon us you do so with love and compassion. But we discover we are too far from you to receive this, and too full of bitter, shameful self-reproach to accept that we are worthy of your forgiveness.
Loving Christ, look upon us again and bring us closer to your sacred heart, your love that is full of compassion and forgiveness, so that we can find healing, and the courage to enter these final days alongside you. Amen
